Employer Information
Are you an employer looking for skilled employees?
Unfortunately, Iowans who are blind are often not hired merely because employers do not believe that they can do the job. Blind persons, like sighted persons, bring to the job market attitudes and skills molded over a lifetime. There is no specific job "especially suited" for blind persons. Blind persons are retail sales people, engineers, creative artists, machine operators, teachers, production workers, supervisors of building maintenance, agency directors, dishwashers, cooks, independent business owners, farmers - the list goes on and on.
Many employers are surprised to discover that often little or no accommodation is necessary. If accommodations are required, the Department will help the employer meet those needs.
