The Iowa Commission for the Blind determines the policies and programs that shall be carried out by the Iowa Department for the Blind.
At the Iowa Department for the Blind, we believe that one of the most positive things an individual who is blind can do is interact with other individuals who are blind. Not only does this interaction allow for friendships to form but it also creates opportunities for learning from each other, promotes a positive attitude about blindness, and provides an opportunity for these individuals to help themselves. Most of you have heard of the term "support group". At the Department, we refer to these types of groups as self-help groups for the reasons mentioned above.
